On the afternoon of this Wednesday (1), a painful chapter ended with the discovery of the body of teenager Vitor Warllen de Paula, aged 14, who had been missing since the drowning that occurred last Sunday (29), in Meia Praia, in Itapema.

The body was spotted by lifeguards at sea, close to Rescue Station 4, at Rua 233, in Meia Praia – Itapema. The young man’s uncle confirmed the identity of the missing minor, and both the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and the Military Police were called to respond to the incident at the scene.

The Drowning:

The tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon (29), when an emergency call mobilized rescue teams in the Meia Praia region, in Itapema. The crews of Auto Bomba Tanque Resgate ABTR-132 and Auto Socorro de Urgência 307 (ASU-307) were called at 4:29 pm, after being alerted by the Military Firefighter Operations Center (COBOM) about a case of drowning involving two teenagers.

The incident took place on Rua 211, Meia Praia neighborhood, close to the Casas da Água store. According to reports from family members, the young people, one aged 13 and the other aged 14, were bathing when they were surprised by the strong current.

When rescue teams arrived at the scene, they found that the 13-year-old teenager had already been rescued by lifeguards and was out of danger. However, 14-year-old Vitor had submerged before rescuers arrived, triggering an intensive search operation.

To assist in search operations, the Archangel 03 helicopter was called in, and a Jet Ski was also used in an attempt to locate the teenager.

The discovery of Vitor’s body this Wednesday brought a somber end to the search, leaving a community in mourning.
