The spin-off series of “The Addams Family”, “Wandinha”, directed by Tim Burton and starring Jenna Ortega, has finally won its premiere date.
Like most Netflix original series releases, “Wandinha” will premiere all of its episodes at the same time on November 23. The date may seem random, but there is as much a motive as a pun involved in it.
It’s just that November 23 falls on a Wednesday, the day of the week that means “Wednesday” when translated into English, which is also the name of Jenna Ortega’s character, known in Brazil as Wandinha. In addition, the premiere takes place on the eve of Thanksgiving, a holiday in the United States, which may favor families gathering to watch the production.
“Wandinha” is a series directed by Tim Burton, and created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who serve as showrunners for the production. She will accompany the title character, the daughter of Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia Addams, as she navigates the hardships of high school in the hallways of Escola Never Again.
“Wandinha is currently a teenager and we’ve never seen her a teenager before,” Ortega said in a statement. “Your snarky comments from her may not necessarily sound so charming when they come from someone who should probably know more than a 10-year-old girl. This was a balancing act. We didn’t want to make her sound like any other teenager, but we also didn’t want to make her too ignorant. And we’ve never seen her so much on screen,” Ortega said.
“Any other time you’ve seen Wandinha, she was the only line, the end of a joke, she always gets it right, and I think that’s what people really love about her. But in this series, every scene is Wandinha. There’s an opportunity to give her a little more dimension, and she becomes a little more real person, which I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.”
In addition to Jenna Ortega as Wandinha, the series will have Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. However, it remains a mystery who will play Uncle Fester Addams.
In August, the series won a teaser, which set the tone for the upcoming horror comedy, which will bring back the iconic characters of the Addams family. Netflix also presented a new video this Wednesday (21), in which it presents Escola Não Mais, and a website where it is possible to enroll in Wandinha’s school in the production.
“Wandinha” premieres on Netflix on November 23.
