Marta Rodrigues proposes urgent union for Minha Casa Minha Vida in Bahia

Candidate for federal deputy for the PT, councilor Marta Rodrigues said, this Friday (23), that the commitment to housing and housing in Bahia and Salvador needs to be one of the priorities in 2023 by left-wing Bahian parliamentarians elected this Friday. year. Marta also pointed out that in the capital of Bahia there is a deficit of 104,000 homes and more than 400,000 people in need of technical assistance and resources to bring as little dignity as possible to their homes.

“We need to resume the Minha Casa Minha Vida budget and revive this program as a government priority. The housing program was one of the hallmarks of the Lula government and was part of the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program). Housing is a gateway to all other rights, as it is through it that health, education, citizenship and culture are fully guaranteed. However, the country’s housing policies, weakened since the Temer government, lost even more traction under Jair Bolsonaro,” he said.

According to PT, the Bolsonaro government terminated Level 1 of the Minha Casa Minha Vida (MCMV) program and, not satisfied, imposed much higher interest charges on Casa Verde e Amarela – the MCMV’s replacement. “It reduced 98.2%, that is, about 1.5 billion of the budget foreseen by Congress to be allocated last year to the Residential Lease Fund (FAR), responsible for financing the works of Minha Casa, Minha Vida. This reality has put more than 200,000 works at risk,” he said.

Marta explains that in Salvador the situation is no different. “In the capital of Bahia, there is a deficit of 104,000 new homes and more than 400,000 people in need of technical assistance and resources to bring as little dignity as possible. We know that, historically, the construction of new housing has always been undertaken by the federal government, but for more than four years, Housing and Social Interest (HIS) contracts have not been implemented. There have been take-backs and deliveries, but no new hires,” she added.

Also according to the candidate, the main way to establish effective public policies is to actively listen to the
population and, if elected, she will defend, alongside the social movements, the guarantee of the budget for the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program and, for the Bahian capital, a housing program of its own.

“The movements have been asking the city of Salvador for a long time to think about how to meet the demand”, he explained.
