Luciano is survived by his mother, wife and an 11-year-old son. “We are feeling relieved. My mother and I left the trial very happy. My brother doesn’t come back, but it was fair. Justice was done. Today I believe that justice really exists”, said the victim’s sister, Luciane Custódio, who attended the jury alongside her mother.
Luciano’s murder took place on November 22, 2014, on the main avenue of the Itaipava neighborhood, after a disagreement between the two moments before the crime.
The victim was already in another place, talking to his nephew, when Zaqueu returned to the avenue, parked the motorcycle, went towards the victim and stabbed her. The blow hit the heart, which, according to IML expertise, caused Luciano’s death.
Shortly after the crime, Zacchaeus fled and was on the run for seven years. In 2021, he was captured and imprisoned to pass the popular jury.
With the conviction, justice denied Zaqueu the right to appeal the decision in freedom. After the trial, he returned to the Canhanduba Penitentiary Complex.
