Canadian actor Ryan Grantham, known for his roles in productions such as “Riverdale”“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Supernatural,” was sentenced to life in prison with ineligibility for parole for 14 years for the second-degree murder of his mother, Barbara Waite.

According to international press reports, Grantaham murdered his mother in March 2020 by shooting her in the back of the head with a .22 rifle while she was playing the piano at her home in Squamish, British Columbia.

In court, according to information, a video recorded by the actor himself with a GoPro was released where he confesses to the crime and shows his mother’s body. The day after the murder, Grantaham said he covered Waite’s body with a sheet, arranging lit candles around him and hanging a rosary on the piano before loading his car with guns, ammunition and Molotov cocktails and driving east to Ottawa.

Grantham revealed that his initial intention was to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau however he changed his mind en route and headed to Hope, BC, where he would carry out a mass shooting at Simon Fraser University – where he was enrolled – or at Lions Gate Bridge. .

Miraculously, neither of the actor’s two plans came to fruition, as before that he decided to turn himself in at the Vancouver Police Department building in East Vancouver.

Grantham’s sister made an impactful statement on behalf of the victim following the sentencing and British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker called the case “tragic” and “heartbreaking”, further adding that Grantham’s choice to turn himself in and not committing mass murder had been a “saving grace.”

In June, the 24-year-old actor read a very emotional statement on the third and final day of his sentencing hearing apologizing for his actors. “I cannot explain or justify my actions. I have no excuse,” Grantham said. “It hurts me to think about how much I’ve wasted my life.”

“In the face of something so horrible, apologizing seems so pointless. But from every fiber of my being, I’m sorry,” he said.
