The heated wholesale and retail demand supports chicken meat prices on the domestic market this week, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Advanced Economics (Cepea). From September 14th to 21st, the wholesale price of frozen whole chicken in Greater São Paulo rose 1.1%, to R$ 7.85 a kilo on Wednesday, 21st. In Porto Alegre (RS), the product was sold at R$9.60/kg, up 1.6% in seven days.

“For the chilled product, between September 14th and 21st, there was an appreciation only in Porto Alegre (RS), of 1.6%, with the kilo of protein going from R$ 9.45/kg on the 14th to R$ 9, 60/kg on the 21st”, reported Cepea.

The wholesale cuts and offals in Greater São Paulo also rose. According to Cepea, cooled wing and breast registered highs of 3% and 2.3%, quoted at R$ 11.13/kg and R$ 10.92/kg. Already the prices of frozen wing and breast rose 1.7% and 2.1% per kilo.

Cepea highlights that foreign sales of poultry meat and offal are still heated. “In the first weeks of September (11 working days), the daily average of shipments was 20 thousand tons, 15.4% higher than that recorded in August and 8% higher than in September/21, according to Secex data” , highlighted in the report.

For Cepea, if this rhythm is maintained until the end of September, foreign sales of chicken meat may exceed the total volume observed last month (398.6 thousand tons), totaling 419.8 tons, which would represent a advance of 5.3% compared to August.
