Accident between minibus and car leaves one dead and 20 injured in Grande Natal

A head-on collision between a minibus and a car left one person dead and at least 20 injured this Thursday morning (22) on BR-406, between the municipalities of São Gonçalo do Amarante and Ceará-Mirim, in Grande Natal. .
The case happened after 6 am in the district of Massaranduba, in São Gonçalo do Amarante. Five ambulances from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) were called to the scene to provide assistance to injured victims.
The victim who died was the driver of the Gol model car involved in the accident. He was identified as João Bosco de Melo Campos, a 60-year-old accountant. A team from the Fire Department was called to the scene to remove the man’s body, which was trapped in the hardware.
According to the driver of the minibus, which runs an intercity public transport line, the capacity was heading towards Natal with 40 passengers. He also stated that the driver of the Gol model car was traveling in the opposite direction and would have tried to overtake, causing the collision.
After the crash, the minibus overturned on the track. The Gol car was destroyed.
According to the conductor Carlos Antônio, who worked on the minibus, after the accident the scene was one of panic inside the vehicle.
“It was a big scream, one fell on top of the other. The impact was great. To get out, we need to use the emergency window,” she said.
