The 24-year-old woman, mother of the 7-year-old boy, taken hostage by his stepfather last Wednesday night (21), told the Military Police that the man became “aggressive” after the relationship ended. The report was recorded in the incident report.
She said that she had ended her relationship with Leandro Mendes, 39, just over two months ago. She also claimed that she has been assaulted by the suspect during arguments. The woman said that, days before the arrest, Leandro increased the dosage of her son’s medication so that the child would be hospitalized, in an attempt to reach her. The boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Center (ICU) of a hospital.
Leandro’s past reveals that this is not the first time he has acted against former teammates. He was convicted and imprisoned for the death of another woman, in 2008, with whom he had a relationship. The victim had ended the relationship and he did not accept this condition.
Leandro was convicted of the crime and served time. In freedom, he maintained the relationship with the hostage boy’s mother.
In addition to the child, Giovani Leonardo Nogueira, 23, was also under the gun of Leandro. A family friend, he was considered a “foster brother”.
Leandro approached his ex-partner, her son and a friend of the woman’s around 6 pm, this Wednesday (21), in a property in the Parque São Pedro neighborhood. She managed to flee the property, but the son and the young man remained at gunpoint.
The Military Police were called and teams from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) tried to negotiate for the kidnapper to surrender, which was not possible. He demanded the ex-partner’s cell phone password and her presence inside the residence, which, for security reasons, was not accepted.
After 16 hours of negotiations, at around 10:15 am, a sniper from the Military Police shot the man. The child and youth were then taken out of the house. The boy was taken to his parents, who were waiting in a military police car.
The shooter was taken in serious condition by a Samu ambulance. He was shot in the head. The military police confirmed that he was rescued and taken to the João XXIII Emergency Hospital. Initially, the PM had reported that the man had been killed, but at 10:35 am the information was corrected.
