Fiat bought Brazilian automaker

You don’t need to be a great expert on the subject to come to the conclusion that cars have become a true worldwide passion, mainly due to their practicality. In this sense, we can mention a series of automakers that have become favorites around the world, such as Fiat, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, among others.

This time, for example, we will talk about a car manufacturer that ended up closing its doors and being sold to Fiat. For those who don’t know, we are talking about the National Motor Factory, which became well known during its history, as “Fenemê”.

The Brazilian automaker was initially designed to produce aeronautical engines, but expanded its operations to manufacture trucks and automobiles. Its entire history began in 1939, when Colonel Antônio Guedes Muniz proposed the construction of an aeronautical engine factory.

With the end of the Second World War in 1945, from 1949 onwards Fenemê expanded its operations and began manufacturing trucks and automobiles, starting the first Brazilian truck assembly line. After a few years producing national models, FNM came to be controlled by the company Alfa Romeo.

According to the Revista Caminhoneiro portal, in 1973, Fiat purchased part of Alfa Romeo’s shares, and in 1976 it assumed full control of the Italian company. In 1985, already managed by Iveco, an Italian company belonging to the Fiat group, FNM closed its activities in Brazil due to the drop in truck sales.
