WHY IS FORMULA 1 OBSESSED WITH COLTON HERTA?

It happened again: when no one else expected it, Scott Dixon emerged from the middle of the pack to achieve another good result. Starting in 16th, the Ganassi driver climbed the grid and ended the Portland GP this Sunday (4) in third place, behind the Penske duo of Scott McLaughlin and Will Power. Despite the good result, Dixon is tired of the bad results in the rankings and having to take recovery tests.

“We need to stop winning this award for whoever gained the most positions in the races, it’s definitely frustrating. I don’t know what happened in qualifying, we were super fast on the black tyres, we were second in our session and we couldn’t convert, which was Starting in 16th, with the competition we have now and without any real yellow flags, we had to climb the field today”, said the six-time champion after the Portland GP.

The result keeps Dixon in the fight for the seven-time Indy Championship. The New Zealander is currently tied with Josef Newgarden for second with 503 points, 20 less than Power. Scott stressed the importance of a late-race restart maneuver over Newgarden to stay in the title race.

“We are still in the fight, 20 points behind, tied with Josef. It was definitely an interesting race and that last restart with Josef I saw that he braked late and ended up spreading over Graham [Rahal] which allowed us to pass both. We tried everything in that last part and managed to get a car on the podium,” said Dixon.

IndyCar is now heading to the last stage of the 2022 season at Laguna Seca. Last week, Ganassi held a test run at the circuit, but Scott doesn’t believe his team will have much of an advantage on the slippery surface. Even so, the New Zealander guarantees that he will fight until the end and expects a close dispute.

“Unfortunately the tire is different. Laguna is probably the most slippery circuit we’ve been to all year and luckily they’ll resurface, which I think should help us. Anything is possible, we’ve won titles by tie-breaking criteria before, we’re in the fight. and we will never give up as a team until it’s over. It’s going to be an interesting race, it’s very tight between 3 or 4 cars and if we have it we’ll try everything”, concluded Dixon.

In addition to Power, Newgarden and Dixon, Marcus Ericsson and McLaughlin still have a mathematical chance of being champions. IndyCar returns this Sunday (11) to close the 2022 season with the Laguna Seca GP, with full coverage of the BIG PRIZE.
