Charles ‘Do Bronx’ became the Brazilian fighter with the most followers on Instagram, surpassing Anderson ‘Spider’ Silva
Last lightweight (70 kg) champion of the UFC, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ is increasingly consolidating itself as the main representative of Brazil in MMA today. Recently, the black belt reached another important milestone: he became the Brazilian fighter with the most followers on ‘Instagram’, surpassing Anderson ‘Spider’ Silvaformer sovereign of the middleweight division (84 kg) at Ultimate and, until then, the most successful Brazilian athlete on social networks.
‘From the Bronx’ reached the 4.5 million of followers in Instagramwhile Anderson has about 100 thousand less fans on this social network.
In addition to ‘Spider’, Charles had already left behind other big names in national MMA, with regard to the number of followers on ‘Instagram’, such as: José Aldo (2.7 million), Amanda Nunes (1.7 million ), Vitor Belfort (1.3 million), Cris ‘Cyborg’ (1.2 million) and Paulo ‘Borrachinha’ (1.2 million).
In the UFC for more than a decade, Charles Oliveira is living his best phase in the organization, boasting a winning streak that has lasted 11 fights.
The good moment led the Brazilian to win the lightweight title, in May 2021. However, even without being defeated inside the Octagon, ‘Do Bronx’ lost the UFC under 70 kg belt in May of this year, after a controversial balance fails before what would have been his second belt defense, against Justin Gaethje, whom he submitted a day after the incident at the weigh-in.
With the victory over Gaethje, Charles qualified for the next division title fight, scheduled for October 22, at UFC 280, in Abu Dhabi (UAE), where ‘Do Bronx’ will try to win the lightweight belt again of Russian Islam Makhachev, teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, former king of the UFC’s up to 70 kg division.
