Lewis Hamilton suffered a heavy blow on the final stretch of the Dutch GP on Sunday, when a podium seemed likely for the seven-time Mercedes champion. The Briton was in first place in the race at Zandvoort and leading the field behind the safety car on lap 57, when the safety car passed the pit lane and everything changed in his quest for his first win of the season.
The German team opted to keep the medium tires that the pilot was using at that time, while their competitors opted for the soft compounds and had no difficulties in overcoming him in the sequence of the race.

At the restart, Hamilton started badly and lost the lead to Max Verstappen in the first corner, with George Russell and Charles Leclerc also taking advantage of the opportunity – they overcame the Englishman with some ease and completed the podium. In the end, Lewis finished the race in fourth place.
As he left the pit lane, Lewis had already realized that Mercedes’ strategy had been different from Russell’s, and asked over the radio: “Why did George stop?” After being overtaken by the three cars and finding himself off the podium, the Englishman fired all his indignation at Mercedes’ mistake. “I can’t believe you guys, goddamn it. I’m really pissed off right now”, said the seven-time champion.
