Max Verstappen takes the cup and the highest point of the podium once again this season. Isolated in the lead of the drivers’ championship with 310 points, he conquers today his 30th victory, being one of the most winners in the history of the category. It is the second time in a row that he has won the Dutch GP, at home. Since returning to the calendar, Zandvoort has 100% success with Verstappen.

Max didn’t have an easy life, as he couldn’t, like Spa, shoot in front of the Ferraris. At the start, the positions of the hands were maintained and the middle of the pack was busy. The leaders started the race on a soft tyre, except for Mercedes who had medium. Also noteworthy is Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman flew his Alpine and won three positions on the first lap. On the run. There were 6 in all!

Hamilton stuck with Sainz for a few laps, until at the first stop the Spaniard suffered melancholy for 12 seconds while his new medium tire wasn’t even there. Thus, Hamilton approached Leclerc and Verstappen, who had already stopped.

With different strategies, the Englishman now on hard tires was quite likely to win his first race in 2022. Meanwhile, Tsunoda with rather weird problems on his Alpha Tauri would stop twice at the track, claiming his tires were loose, and then in fact with mechanical failures in your car. In the middle of the pack, Norris and Alonso fought for 6th position from start to finish of the race, with the Spaniard finishing ahead at the flag.

Towards the end of the race, Bottas stopped his Alpha Romeo at the end of the straight, close to Turn 1, a very dangerous place as there is a lot of overtaking at that point. The Safety Car once again kicked in against Hamilton’s luck this season. This time, what took him off positions was a bad strategy by Mercedes.

With 15 laps to go, Verstappen had hard tires and stopped for softs, and Russell in medium did the same, as did Leclerc, Sainz and Perez. Hamilton was not called up by the team when he could during the Safety Car and missed the opportunity to put up the red lanes. Hannah Schimitz, Red Bull’s strategist, was hailed by the press for her good choices.

On lap 60 of 72, the restart started a nightmare for the Englishman. Verstappen passed him before the end of Turn 1. Lewis was furious and in the next 12 laps, he saw Leclerc and Russell pass him without difficulty. Max won and Zandvoort became a big orange smoke, due to the Dutch fans’ flags.

The grid after the checkered flag was Verstappen, Russell, Leclerc, Hamilton, Perez, Alonso, Norris, Sainz, Ocon, Stroll, Gasly, Albon, Schumacher, Vettel, Magnussen, Zhou, Ricciardo and Latifi. Bottas and Tsunoda didn’t finish the race.
