Ferrari sees ‘element of disappointment’ in Netherlands defeat – Formula 1 News

Ferrari was very close to disappointing the fans present in the stands of Zandvoort, this Saturday (3), during the Dutch GP standings of Formula 1. The reason was the proximity of Max Verstappen, the home driver, and Red Bull. But he lost again. So he left the track with mixed feelings.

Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies celebrated that the team had returned to being competitive after an astonishing weekend in Belgium a few days ago, and for having improved the car in every activity over the weekend. The bitterness of being defeated remains, however.

“We can be reasonably happy with the way qualifying has gone, but there is still an element of disappointment. We are happy to be back fighting for pole position in a battle that went down to the smallest fractions of a second with our two cars, but of course when you get so close, I wish I could have won it.”

“Seeing Charles and Carlos get so close to Verstappen, just 0s02 and 0s09 respectively, is a good indicator of how intense the fight was. Congratulations to Max for taking pole at home.” In fact, Verstappen beat Charles Leclerc by just 0s021, while the distance to Carlos Sainz was 0s092.

“One of the aspects of the weekend so far is that we’ve been able to help the drivers become more and more confident with the car in every activity. It’s thanks to the team in the paddock, including Charles and Carlos, and everyone there at the Maranello factory.”

“I hope the race will be as close between the three teams, including Mercedes, so it should be a great show for the audience in the stands and who will be watching it on TV. We know that, so far, Verstappen has had very strong race pace. Tomorrow we have to try to put him under pressure and make life difficult.”
