New York (USA) – Champion of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati for two weeks, Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia continued her great phase on the circuit and reached her 11th consecutive victory. She surpassed the Canadian Bianca Andreescu, champion in 2019, with partials of 6/3 and 6/2 in 1h27 of departure to reach the round of 16 in New York.

Garcia’s undefeated streak started with Cincinnati’s quali and the Frenchwoman needed to win eight straight games to win her third WTA 1000 of her career. The 28-year-old has yet to lose sets in New York, having passed Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova and Anna Kalinskaya in the early stages.

Former number 4 in the world, Garcia currently appears in 17th place in the ranking. She has already accumulated three titles and 38 victories this season, having also been champion on grass in Bad Homburg and on clay in Warsaw, where she managed to surpass ranking leader Iga Swiatek. Just over two months ago, on June 20, she was only 75th in the world.

Despite being in his tenth participation in the US Open, Garcia reaches the round of 16 for the first time. His next opponent will be the American Alison Riske-Amritraj, 29th in the ranking, who beat China’s Xiyu Wang, 21-year-old left-handed and 75th, by 6/4, 3/6 and 6/4. Riske, 32, won all three duels against the Frenchwoman on the circuit.
