There is only one month to go until the start of the South American Games Asunción 2022. And almost 300 names, between starters and reserves, are already defined for the competition, which is even more important for the 28 modalities that are qualifiers for the Pan-American Games. Americans Santiago 2023. With the criteria disclosed so far, there are 190 vacancies (89 female, 84 male, 17 mixed), and only athletics, boxing and tennis will distribute nominal spots. All others are for the country.

“We managed to partner with the Brazilian Confederations to form strong teams in all modalities, aiming for the best possible result in the games and with an eye on our participation in the Pan American Games. One of the main objectives of the COB in this competition is to win as many spots as possible for Santiago 2023 and we are very confident in obtaining these spots. With the classifications guaranteed, we will have more peace of mind for better planning for the coming year”, said Sebastian Pereira, head of Asunción 2022 Mission.

The modalities that Brazil will compete for spots for Santiago 2023 are: Open Waters (Water Marathon), Athletics, Bowling, Boxing, Karate, BMX Freestyle Cycling (worth points for the world ranking), Cycling BMX Racing (worth points for the world ranking) , Road Cycling, MTB Cycling, Track Cycling, Water Skiing, Handball, Dressage Equestrian, Jump Equestrian, Grass Hockey, Figure Skating, Speed ​​Skating, Water Polo, Rugby, Diving, Skate Street, Squash, Tennis, Tennis Table, Archery, Sport Shooting and Triathlon.

Logistics and history

The first COB team arrives in Paraguay on September 24, a week before the start of the competition. The plan is for each athlete to arrive in Asunción two days before the event for final training. Inside the hotel that will serve as the base for Team Brasil, there will be spaces for athletes to train and, thus, minimize the displacement between accommodation and training.

The delegations of the modalities that will be at the Encarnación sub-headquarters, which is about 6 hours from the Paraguayan capital, will arrive three days in advance so that they can have a longer rest time.

The COB will take about 470 athletes from 45 modalities to the Paraguayan capital. This is the largest delegation of Team Brazil in the Olympic cycle. The expectation is to lead the medal table again, after being in second place, behind Colombia, in the edition of Cochabamba, Bolivia, in 2018.

Assunção 2022 will be the 12th Brazilian participation in the South American Games, which has been present since the first edition, in La Paz 1972, when the competition was still called the Cruzeiro do Sul Games.
