Esteban Ocon won Alpine’s first point in the 2024 Formula 1 season, but avoided effusive celebrations after the Miami GP. The Frenchman finished the race in tenth place, an encouraging result after a disappointing start to the championship for the team.
“We’re not going to jump for joy and celebrate too much, obviously it’s just a top 10,” Ocon told the press. “But considering where we were a few races ago, in Bahrain, in 19th and 20th, I think we can take positive things from this race and the small advances we are making at the moment.”
Alpine finished sixth last year, with Ocon and Pierre Gasly combined for 120 points. However, a change in the car’s design philosophy for 2024 saw the team fall to the back of the field at the Bahrain GP.
“It’s good to come away from this weekend with some reward,” said Ocon, reflecting on the last few difficult races. “The team remained motivated, continued trying to understand what is happening with our pace. It wasn’t the smoothest weekend, but there were two races where we came close to 11th points in Shanghai, and today, we’re within the points zone. It’s definitely good to leave this weekend with some positive result”, concluded the French driver.
Despite Ocon’s 10th place, Alpine remains behind in the constructors’ championship. The Frenchman, however, believes that the team is on the right path.
