Domenicali promises new races on the F1 calendar “soon”

-

Taking advantage of the boom in popularity of Formula 1the CEO of the category, Stefano Domenicaliannounced that new races should enter the calendar “soon”.

In 2024, F1 will finally be able to fulfill its promise of expanding the calendar to 24 races, something that was not possible in previous years due to cancellations. This total will be maintained for 2025 with the same tests, without any changes.

However, many countries, including Turkey, want to return to the calendar from 2026, and Domenicali confirmed that there are currently negotiations with several countries, but without naming names. According to the CEO, F1 should have new races soon.

“There is a lot of interest in our races around the world, there is a lot of demand from promoters. Our aim is to maintain the number of races on the calendar to balance the possible opportunities in terms of location. At the moment, we think that a calendar of 24 racing is the best solution.”

“We and you can see how the quality of race organization has improved in recent years, and how the economic impact for us and promoters has increased. The high demand for holding races shows that we chose the right strategy.”

“It’s about finding the right balance for the continents that want to host a GP. In the coming years, we will organize races on new circuits. We will organize races in some new locations that will be very attractive for the development of F1.”

In addition to Turkey, Domenicali had recent talks with South Korea about a possible return and with Thailand for a race on the streets of the capital Bangkok. South Africa remains an objective for the category so that F1 can truly travel to all the continents of the world.

Although Domenicali said in the interview that a 24-race calendar is seen as ideal, behind-the-scenes information states that Liberty Media is discussing increasing the limit of races per year for the next Concorde Pact, which will come into force at the beginning of 2026. .
