Derrick Lewis is angry about being cast in a new UFC main fight and suggests a last-minute change

Protagonist of UFC St.Louis, Derrick Lewis he didn’t hide his frustration at being scheduled for the main fight of this Saturday’s event (11). In conversation with the press at ‘media day‘, the veteran reinforced his distaste for competing in five-round clashes. The athlete offered the position of last clash of the event to Joaquin Buckley and his rival, who appear moments before.

“I don’t know why they cast me in the main fight. I’ve already said publicly a few times that I don’t want to do main fights. I don’t know what else I need to do. Maybe I need to lose some fights and then not have to deal with this anymore,” said Lewis.

Subsequently, Derrick was informed that Joaquin Buckley had asked him to appear in the main fight, as he represents St.Louis. The heavyweight (up to 120.2kg.), then, suggested a last minute change.

“He (Buckley) can still get his main fight. The event has not started yet. I would love to fight three rounds”, said the ‘giant’.

At the weekend, Lewis returns to the octagon for his first engagement after his defeat against Jailton Malhadinhoat the end of 2023. Former challenger for the heavyweight belt, the athlete measures forces with the Brazilian Rodrigo Zé Colmeia.

Featured at UFC St.Louis, Joaquin Buckley is scheduled to face Nursulton Ruziboev.
