Hua Hin (Thailand) – The final of the WTA 250 in Hua Hin was defined this Saturday. On one side will be the Chinese Lin Zhu, current champion and seed number 2. Her opponent will be Diana Shnaider, the Russian “intruder” among the three Chinese in the semifinals, who is looking for her first achievement at this level.
In an all-Chinese duel, Zhu asserted favoritism against compatriot Yafan Wang and won with authority, closing the game with partials of 6/3 and 6/2, after 1h24. The 30-year-old tennis player, currently 45th in the world, will compete in her third final and is looking for the second WTA title of her career.
Zhu started the match with everything and won the first four games, with two consecutive breaks. Wang even returned one of the breaks in the eighth, but lost his serve again afterwards. In the second half, the current champion scored two breaks, one in the fourth and another in the eighth and last.
In the other semifinal of the day, Shnaider had a little more work to do, but also won in straight sets, defeating China’s Xinyu Wang, third favorite, with splits of 6/2 and 7/6 (7-5), after 1h40 of confrontation. The 19-year-old Russian is going to her second final, having finished second last year in Ningbo.
The two finalists in Hua Hin will compete for the second time on the circuit. The other duel between them also took place in Asia, at the WTA in Nanchang last year, when the host Zhu got the worst of it against the young Russian, losing in straight sets with the right to “tire” in the second.
