New York (USA) – Former world number 1, North American Andy Roddick believes that Serbian Novak Djokovic has lost his invincible aura compared to the rest of the circuit. On your podcast Served with Andy Roddickhe said that the ranking leader’s campaign at the Australian Open showed that the other players no longer respect him as much and that is why he is more vulnerable.

“Djokovic stumbled a little in this tournament, but through no fault of his own, the guy is still the best there is on the entire planet. However, I’m a little worried that you won’t get any younger. As the years go by, everything happens very quickly, you also have new rivals who can beat you, this new generation that knows they can beat you and will not give up”, analyzed Roddick.

“The mentality that they can’t beat him won’t come back,” warned the American, stating that more and more players will believe that it is possible to beat Djokovic. For Roddick, this and the Serbian’s age, who is already 36, should make him have a lot more work to do to win his games from now on.

“It’s going to be a question of mental acuity and how it develops. For 10 years I didn’t worry about Novak’s results in Indian Wells, Miami or any hard court tournament, because he gets there, plays well and gets the results. I’m curious to see how he fares now with the pressure after the defeat on the big stage”, observed the former number 1.

Despite the shorter distance, Roddick continues to bet on great results from the Serb. “He’s usually good at finding someone to fight with and using that as a tool to move forward. Honestly, we’ve all been there. Novak is much less so than the rest of us, that’s why he is who he is. The rest of us are in our garages making podcasts. Your ability to find a way to motivate yourself is also a superpower.”
