Jaqueline and Samia Lima go to the Iran Challenge final

Brazilians Jaqueline Lima and Samia Lima beat South Africans Amy Ackerman/Deidre Laurens 2-0 (21/17 and 21/9), this Saturday (03), and qualified for the final of the Internacional women’s doubles tournament Badminton Iran Challenge. Juliana Viana lost to Indian Tasnim Mir 2-0 (21/17 and 21/13) and took bronze in singles.

Number 1 seeds, Jaqueline and Samia Lima continue with an impeccable campaign. They won again without conceding sets, now in 29 minutes, to guarantee themselves in the final of the competition. Until here, there are three victories won by straight sets, with just 67 points lost. In the final, they will face Iranians Paria Eskandari/Romina Tajik, this Sunday (04).

Currently, Jaqueline Lima and Samia Lima appear in 57th place in the world ranking of women’s doubles. In the Olympic ranking for Paris-2024, they are in 68th position, still far from being placed in the classification zone. Only 16 pairs guarantee a place. Today, the last ranked partnership is Annie Xu/Kerry Xu, from the United States, in 29th place on the list.

Juliana Viana Vieira (53rd) also took action in the semifinals of the International Challenge in Iran in the women’s singles tournament. The main favorite for the title, the 19-year-old from Piauí lost to India’s Tasnim Mir (73rd), seed number 4. The Brazilian won the bronze medal, as there is no third-place match in the tournament.

In addition to Juliana Viana, Jaqueline Lima and Fabrício Farias also won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles group at the Iran Challenge. Brazil will therefore end the competition with three podiums. On the other hand, Jonathan Matias (men’s singles) and Izak Batalha/Matheus Voigt (men’s doubles) fell in the quarterfinals.
