Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo may end up at Mercedes, even though he has stated his desire to remain at Red Bull
After a forced departure from McLarena year ago, Daniel Ricciardo was preparing for a season away from the tracks of Formula 1. The Australian driver was coming from a difficult period with the British team and lost his place to Oscar Piastri. No other team was interested in having him as a starter, but the Red Bull Racing chose him as a reserve.
But thanks to sub-par performance Nyck de Vriesan unexpected chance appeared in the AlphaTauri, and, midway through last season, Ricciardo was back. Currently, the pilot is seen as a strong candidate to be a teammate Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2025, potentially replacing Sergio Perez. The team leader Christian Horner he makes no point of hiding his interest in having the Australian in the team’s cars.
However, the announcement made yesterday about the unexpected change of Lewis Hamilton from the Mercedes to the Ferrari in 2025, caused a vacancy to arise for the Australian next year.
“Daniel Ricciardo, who started last year as a reserve at Red Bull, but won a place at the then AlphaTauri thanks to good performances in some tests, may be being considered for a move to Mercedes”stated the “Daily Mail” newspaper.
What made everything more surprising were Ricciardo’s statements, who, on numerous occasions, made it clear that he wants to stay at Red Bull.
