Fluminense’s 4-1 thrashing of Bangu was the first match for the main players a week after their pre-season presentation. The game served as preparation for the starters to reach 100% in the clashes with LDU for the Recopa Sul-Americana.

The one who guarantees this is the right-back who started last Thursday night. Guga assisted Arias’ second goal, which closed the scoring in the Luso-Brasileiro. According to him, the focus is on preparing for the games on February 22nd and 29th in Quito and Rio de Janeiro, respectively.

– The biggest challenge is to continue the work. The planning is going very well, both from the board and the technical committee. We’ve been back for a short time, it’s still preparation, like today’s game. We’re still not at our best physically, but we’re going to try to do that to be 100% ready for the Recopa. Missing few days.

– We saw videos and some games (Bangu) and it really is a very difficult team to play against. We managed to control the game in the 90 minutes. We conceded the goal unluckily, it’s normal, it happens, but at no point do we change our characteristics and we always look for the result. Starting with a big win like this is always great. Now it’s time to move on, think about the next step, the next opponent. And day by day, gain even more rhythm so that everyone is fit and 100% ready for the Recopa.

Guga held a press conference after the victory in the Luso-Brazilian Championship and had to respond to a topic that had stirred social media in recent days. He and Fluminense were reportedly approached by a club in the Netherlands, but negotiations did not go ahead. According to the full-back, there is a dream of playing in Europe, but he doesn’t seem to be in a rush to make that happen.

GE Fluminense praises Arias: “Do everything to stay in the next window”

– I found out like everyone else, on the internet. These things I prefer to avoid, I’m very happy here. Since returning to training, I’ve been trying to do my best to be 100% as quickly as possible and help Fluminense. We leave these things to the outside world, which is the presidency, the board, the businesspeople… When things have to happen, they will happen. My focus is entirely on Fluminense.

– Here I feel very good, at home. The group is spectacular, really a family and I’m very happy. I hope to seek out my space even more. I know how important I was in some decisive moments, but we always want more. This year is full of important championships and we need to keep Fluminense at the top, that is the challenge. Last year there was still a taste that there was more that could be done at the World Cup. Let’s look for even more, this is the main challenge to keep Fluminense where it should be, which is at the top of national football.

“It’s cowardice to see this Fluminense play”, says Phill | The Voice of the Fan

Fluminense leads the Guanabara Cup with 13 points from five games. Undefeated in the competition so far, the team has a three-point advantage over second place and four over fifth. The first four move on to the semi-final and the first two have the advantage of a draw on the sum of the semi-final results. Flu returns to the field on Sunday, at 4pm (Brasília time), against Boavista, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca, in Bacaxá.

– Not everyone is 100%, but considering the game we played today, the intensity we delivered, I believe it was even surprising. But that’s what I said, let’s look for improvement, because we know we need more. Work will be done for this, so that we can be at the peak of the physical part as quickly as possible.

– Renato Augusto is another genius we have. Another great opportunity to play with a guy like this, who came to add value, also wanting to find his place. It’s going to be a good fight, a healthy fight. As long as he’s on the field, we have to try to get the most out of these smart, experienced guys. We have a lot to learn from them on our side.

– Our goal is to always think and put into practice that the next game, the next championship is the most important. There’s no point in choosing games and championships, because if we go with that mindset we’re not going anywhere. We faced Bangu the way we had to face it, with the importance we had to give and we had the best result. It will be this until the end. Do not choose a championship or opponent. And work as hard as possible for each game to do our best and play the way Fluminense has to play.
