Confusion after Santos was relegated to Series B
Six buses, six cars and an ambulance were set on fire after Santos’ relegation in the Brazilian Championship, during the night of this Wednesday (6). Policing was reinforced in the Vila Belmiro region, where there was confusion with fans.
Even before the final whistle of the match, a group of Santos fans threw stones, Molotov cocktails and other objects at Vila Belmiro and police officers who were in the area.
Subsequently, the police reacted with stun bombs and pepper gas, in an attempt to contain the situation.
Helicopters and Military Police cavalry were called in to reinforce security. A video shows fans organizing against police officers in front of a hospital in the city. Watch below.

During the confrontation, as fans moved away from the stadium, the riot continued in the vicinity of the neighborhood, with buses and cars being set on fire.
Trash bins, signs and even homes were also targets of attacks.
The players quickly left the field and were targeted by objects thrown from the stands, including chairs.
Some fans who were leaving the venue peacefully were also affected by the confusion, including due to the use of stun bombs and pepper spray. Among them is former player Lima, who played alongside Pelé in the 1960s.
Until the publication of this report there was no information about injuries or detainees.
