On Black Awareness Day, the Squadron launches “Aláfia”, a new shirt in honor of African-based religions and in the fight against religious racism. The piece has a layout developed by the artist Alberto Pitta, a reference in Brazil in Afro-Bahian prints.
The shirt is now on sale at Squadron Storeboth online and in person, at Fonte Nova.
The word Aláfia was chosen to name the new mantle because it is an expression of peace and prosperity, which transcends borders. Aláfia is the antithesis of hatred – a light that opens the paths to understanding and mutual acceptance.
The campaign recording and photo shoot took place at Terreiro de São Jorge Filho da Goméia.
Religious intolerance
In Brazil, the number of reports of religious intolerance increased by 106% in just one year. It went from 583, in 2021, to 1,200, in 2022, an average of three complaints per day, according to an article by BBC News Brasil, released in January this year. According to the text, in the first 20 days of 2023, Dial 100, a channel for reporting human rights violations, recorded 58 incidents.
According to data from the Renafro Institute, 78.4% of Brazilian fathers and mothers of saints have been targets of violence and 91.7% have heard some type of prejudice due to their chosen religion.

“In a diverse world, where colors intertwine in a mosaic of cultures and beliefs, we raise our voice against religious racism. We believe that, on our shared journey, the word “Aláfia” becomes a powerful guide. Aláfia, an expression of peace and prosperity, transcends borders and reminds us of the human essence that connects us.
In this manifesto, we call for unity and respect for different religious practices, recognizing that the diversity of faiths is a wealth that enhances our society. Aláfia is the antithesis of hatred – a light that opens the paths to understanding and mutual acceptance.
Promoting dialogue and empathy, we reject any and all forms of prejudice. Together, we raise a flag that demands respect and tolerance. We hope the echo of this message inspires lasting transformation in our communities. Aláfia is our commitment to a world where every human being is free to express their spirituality, without fear.”
