Sport confirmed this Monday that Vagner Love will not be available for the decisive match against Sampaio Corrêa, in the last round of Series B. The 39-year-old striker suffered an injury to his left thigh.
Last Saturday, in the match against Vitória, Vagner Love was substituted in the first half and left the pitch crying. Without the striker on the field, Sport ended up defeated 1-0 and got into trouble in the fight for access.
Despite not going through a great phase, especially in his relationship with the Leão da Ilha fans, Vagner Love is the second top scorer in Series B, with 11 goals. This season, the player has played 59 games for Sport, with 23 goals and 7 assists.
Without their number 9, Sport will take to the field next Saturday, at 5pm (Brasília time), against Sampaio Corrêa, on Ilha do Retiro, with a complicated mission. If they lose or draw, the team will be out of the fight for access to Series A. If they win, they will still have to hope for the defeat of four of the other five teams in the dispute.
Furthermore, there is still the possibility that Vagner Love will not play for Sport again. At 39 years old, the striker has a contract valid until the end of the season and has not yet revealed whether he will retire.
