Love was substituted 30 minutes into the game in Salvador, last Saturday (18). Before that, the striker had been Leão’s main offensive weapon, creating two good goal opportunities, with an assist for Vagner Love. He also finished a dangerous ball. He left the field in tears, surely aware of the injury and the improbability of returning to play for the club.
Even this season, the experienced athlete has already left the possibility of ending his career up in the air. It won’t work if you accept challenges outside Ilha do Retiro. After all, at Leão, the athlete has been experiencing a crisis with the fans for a few months now, ever since, in a statement much criticized by the fans, he suggested that the Red and Blacks stay at home in September. Since then, there has been a rift between the athlete and the stands.
Experiencing a sequence of low-productivity matches, Love experienced the height of his worst moment when he missed a penalty and a clear goal chance in the match against Juventude, on October 16th, in the 32nd round. The game, for many, is crucial in the club’s unsuccessful trajectory in the search for access.
In the following game, against Chapecoense on Ilha do Retiro, when his name was called by the narrator of “Rádio Ilha”, before the match, Love also received a long boo, followed by many “stay at home”.
Finally, on November 1st, Love was harassed at Guararapes International Airport, in Recife, by members of the club’s main organized fan base.
Despite the bad moment, Love will finish Serie B as the competition’s second top scorer, with 11 goals. In total, he scored 23 goals and provided 10 assists in the season for Leão.
