Commentator attributes Lucas Perri’s drop in performance at Botafogo to the defensive system: ‘It really affects the goalkeeper’s confidence’

The bad results of Botafogo in the last rounds of the Brazilian Championship coincide with the drop in the goalkeeper’s production Lucas Perri. The black and white archer was the subject of debate on the “SporTV Selection” program, and the commentator Jessica Cescon believes that Perri’s poor performance has more to do with the entire defensive system, which is also not doing well.

– I think his drop in performance in the Brasileirão has a lot to do with the defensive sector. The goalkeeper has to trust his defense a lot, know how it behaves for him to perform well. This drop in the defense really affects the goalkeeper’s confidence – said Jéssica Cescon.

Lucas Perri was a topic when the program debated the Brazilian team. The goalkeeper was called up again by coach Fernando Diniz for the games against Colombia and Argentina, despite not being in a good phase.

– I don’t know if Lucas Perri should be the national team’s number one, what he did this year is still not enough, not even to be one of the three. To be one of the team’s three goalkeepers, he has to show more characteristics than he has shown so far. However, stopping calling him up to bring in another player is very complicated because the process of giving him space had already begun – said Cescon.

Program presenter, André Rizek said that the list of those called up was delivered by Fernando Diniz on October 30th, therefore, before the games against Palmeiras, Vasco, Grêmio and Red Bull Bragantino, when Lucas Perri conceded 11 goals.

– Lucas Perri was once the best goalkeeper in the championship, but at the moment would you trust him? I know it’s cruel to ask the question, but I’ve seen a goalkeeper with very irregular performances in the last month of the Brazilian Championship. I’m seeing balls enter Botafogo’s goal that would have been avoidable by Lucas Perri from the first round.
