Fortaleza (CE) – From November 15th to 18th, Aterro da Praia de Iracema, in Fortaleza (CE), will host the Beach Tennis Federations Cup. The tournament brings together around 1,400 athletes who compete in team competition, in the search for the title of overall champion.
Organized by the Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) together with the Ceará Federation, this will be the first time that the competition takes place in the Northeast region, but the novelty is not just due to the location. In an unprecedented way, all states will be represented at the event. The feat is possible thanks to the recent affiliation of the Roraimense Tennis Federation with the CBT.
The Cup has eight categories: Professional; Amateur A; Amateur B; Amateur C; Under-14; Under-18; +40 and +50. With up to one team per category, the states face each other in an eliminatory format, with matches for women’s, men’s and mixed doubles. Whoever wins two victories wins the duel.
The title of general champion is won by the federation that presents the best performance in all categories, gaining the most points. To date, the Gaúcha Federation is the biggest winner of the event, with three titles (2016, 2018 and 2019), the São Paulo Federation comes next with two (2017 and 2021) and Paraná has one (2022). In the year the competition debuted, there was no overall champion and, in 2020, there was no competition due to the pandemic.
