The construction of a new stadium for the Flamengo is a recurring theme in planning the president’s administration Rodolfo Landim. This Thursday (9), the club received a ‘green light’ for the continuation of the project that would have the Gasometer region, in the port area of Rio de Janeiro, as the location of the red-black ‘house’.
According to the newspaper O Globo, Flamengo already has an executive heading the project. Its about Marcos Bodin. Chosen by Landim, the businessman was just waiting for the definition of a new Caixa Econômica Federal president to continue conversations on the topic.
On the other hand, Carlos Vieira, Caixa’s new president, gave an interview to O Globo after taking office and responded about participating in the construction of a new Flamengo stadium. And he revealed the conditions for Caixa to be in the project.
“If it’s profitable for Caixa, we’ll do it. Flamengo is an exponent of Brazilian sport. We can do a PPP (public-private partnership), for example, but I need to understand the project better. A private business is always welcome if is good for Caixa”, said Carlos Vieira, to O Globo.
As already announced, the stadium, if it comes to fruition, would be built on the old Gasometer site. Caixa manages a real estate fund that owns the site in Porto Maravilha.
In other interviews, Rodolfo Landim has already commented on the possible construction of a stadium there. But he treated the matter as something ‘preliminary’.
“The news is real. Flamengo has already been talking to City Hall, the Federal Government, and Caixa Econômica Federal. Flamengo has already demonstrated that it is interested in the Gasometer area to build a stadium, but the process is still in a very preliminary phase It is a phase of interest for the club,” said Landim, in 2022.
It remains to be seen whether Flamengo and Caixa will move forward in new conversations after Carlos Vieira takes office. Currently, Flamengo plays its games at Maracanã, where it manages the venue in partnership with the Fluminense.
