The blessing no longer comes to Fluminense just through João de Deus. Pope Francis received a tricolor team shirt and pennant this Thursday morning at the Vatican. The gift was given by Father Omar Raposo, rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer.

At the Vatican, Father Omar also took the opportunity to visit the tomb of John Paul II. This was a promise made by the priest for the tricolor title. According to him, when commenting to the Argentine Pope, a fan of San Lorenzo, that Fluminense’s victory was over Boca Juniors, Pope Francis gave a slight smile.
According to the website “vaticannews”, Father Omar was accompanied by Pedro Trengrouse, legal advisor to the CBF. They are part of the Art Benefactory of the Vatican Museums. In addition to the Fluminense pennant and shirt, they also gave Pope Francis a letter from the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was in 2022 for a conference with the Pontiff to sign the Declaration of Sport for All.
Fluminense won the Conmebol Libertadores title by beating Boca Juniors 2-1, last Saturday, at Maracanã. With the victory, the team guaranteed a place in the Libertadores and Recopa in 2024, in addition to the Club World Cup in 2023 and 2025.
