São Paulo Brazil
The president of Fluminense, Mario Bittencourt, wants to repeat with Fernando Diniz what Palmeiras did with Abel Ferreira.
Provide stability to the coach so that he can work at ease.
And for years.
At least two.
The manager is already articulating the extension of the coach’s contract until at least 2025.
For a simple reason: with winning the Libertadores da América, Fluminense has already guaranteed the chance to compete in two World Cups.
The first, next month, in Arabia.
And the second, in 2025, when FIFA will expand the competition to 32 teams. Fluminense will be representing South America, alongside Palmeiras and Flamengo.
Bittencourt also has a secret certainty that his plan will work.
The guarantee that Carlo Ancelotti will take over the national team in June next year.
Thus, Fernando Diniz will dedicate himself only to Fluminense until at least the second World Cup.
And, depending on what happens, he could continue in Laranjeiras.
Or watch the United States Cup.
And take over the Brazilian team, definitively, after Ancelotti’s departure, after the World Cup.
As of 2026, the situation is still cloudy.
But Bittencourt is not giving up on extending Diniz’s contract until 2025.
Diniz’s position is to continue at Fluminense.
In no club he has been there has he had so much support.
Including the difficult decision that the management of the Rio team made.
To agree to share his work, in the middle of the Libertadores, with the national team.
The coach must agree to extend his contract until 2025.

With a substantial increase, due to the most important title in the club’s history.
The coach currently receives R$800,000 a month in Laranjeiras, with a commitment until December 2024.
In April 2022, when he returned to Fluminense, he received R$350,000. His excellent performance meant he received a substantial salary increase in December 2022 to R$800,000.
In the Brazilian team, he receives R$500,000 a month, as an interim.
Diniz is far below Abel Ferreira’s level, with 500 thousand euros, around R$2.6 million. Tite earns R$1.8 million at Flamengo.
Fluminense’s proposal is already on the table.
And Diniz should extend his contract.
Bittencourt cannot imagine another coach in charge of the club in both World Cups.
The Libertadores radically changed the level of the coach…
