Lima (Peru) – Three Brazilian players are in the doubles quarterfinals of the Lima challenger, on clay courts. Mateus Alves from São Paulo and Eduardo Ribeiro from Rio Grande do Sul play together this week, while Orlando Luz, also from Rio Grande do Sul, has Colombian Nicolas Barrientos as his partner.

3 seeds in Lima, Luz and Barrientos beat the Brazilian duo of Fernando Romboli and Marcelo Zormann 6/3, 3/6 and 10-7. They could face the Italian Alessandro Giannessi and the Spaniard Oriol Roca Batalla or the Peruvian brothers Conner and Arklon Huertas.

Alves and Ribeiro beat Swiss Luca Margaroli and Argentine Santiago Taverna by 6/2, 4/6 and 10-7. The Brazilian duo will now face Uruguayan Ignacio Carou and Argentine Camilo Carabelli.

Also this Wednesday, São Paulo’s Gustavo Heide and Pernambuco’s João Lucas Reis were beaten in their debut by Ecuadorian Diego Hidalgo and Colombian Cristian Rodriguez, 2nd seed, by 6/3 and 6/2.

Reis focuses his efforts on the singles dispute. The 23-year-old, 317th in the ranking, is the only Brazilian in the round of 16 and challenges Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, top seed and 67th in the world, next Thursday.

19-year-old Santa Catarina Bruno Fernandez debuted with victory in the main draw of the ITF M15 in Rosário, on clay courts in Argentina. Coming from quali, he beat local guest Juan Estevez 6/1 6/4. His next rival is fellow host and 2 seed Luciano Ambrogi. Another Brazilian in the round of 16 is Igor Gimenezwho faces Argentine Lautaro Midon.

At the ITF M25 in Austin, in the United States, Lorenzo Esquici from Mato Grosso lost on his debut to Belgian Pierre Yves Bailly by 1/6, 6/3 and 6/0.
