The English Tom Aspinall did not run away from the organization’s call and agreed to face the Russian Sergei Pavlovich around 15 days before UFC 295. However, on the ‘media day’ of the card that takes place this Saturday (11), the challenger for the interim heavyweight belt (up to 120, 2kg) showed confidence in coming out with victory, assured that he is not in New York ‘for pleasure’ and revealed his dream of sharing the octagon with Jon Jones.
“I’m fighting the scariest guy in MMA in my opinion, in the worst possible circumstances without a training camp. Obviously I think I can win. I’m not the kind of guy who shows up just for the money. I don’t sign a contract and I show up if I think I can’t win. I truly believe I will win on Saturday night. I am an absolute winner and I will find a way to win, regardless of the circumstances,” said Aspinall.
Tom also said he didn’t mind the interim belt and revealed his dream of sharing the Octagon with the current linear champion and greatest athlete in the history of the sport, Jon Jones.
“I’m fine with the interim. I’m not too bothered. It will work, I’m sure. Jon Jones is obviously one of the best of all time. I have a lot of respect for him and I hope we can share the cage one day”, concluded the Englishman.
At the UFC 295which takes place next Saturday (11), Aspinall will face the Russian Sergei Pavlovich, in a duel valid for the heavyweight belt. The winner of the match will wait for the injury to progress. Jon Jones and possible clash against Stipe Miocic.
