Bárbara Domingos had an almost perfect Pan in Santiago: there were five medals, three golds and two silvers. But her success and Brazil’s success in rhythmic gymnastics has bothered some of her opponents. Mexican Marina Malpica wrote on Twitter that she will ‘move to Brazil to see if they can give me something’. Questioned by reporters in Santiago, Babi responded to the insinuations:

“It’s very sad for us to know that this still exists within gymnastics. We know that our results weren’t the same as today, I believe we worked hard to be here. It’s sad not to have this fair play. We work with that. And You need to know that not every championship we will win, but not everyone will lose”

Marina ended up without medals and even lost her Olympic place to the US Evita Griskenas the Olympic place that was up for grabs at the Pan. After the negative repercussion on the first tweet, she deleted it and wrote a new one: “Now I can’t tweet anything because everything is wrong .”

Babi added that she was upset with the Mexican after finding out about her tweet:

“I was a little upset, yes, because of that. We all have space on the court to do our best and have a positive result. You just have to dedicate yourself, train hard and trust your work. If I did everything I could , if I did my best, I can rest easy with myself “

Brazil was perfect in rhythmic gymnastics in Santiago. There were eight gold medals out of eight possible, five in individual events and three in the group, which crowned the perfect year for the Brazilian gymnasts, who had qualified for the Olympics during the last world championship in 2023.
