Libertadores champion with Fluminense, defender Nino will not continue at the club in 2024. He is destined for Nottingham Forest, in England. However, as he will only leave at the end of the year, the captain will compete in the Club World Cup for Tricolor.
Nottingham Forest signaled to the Tricolor management that it will pay Nino’s termination fine. The English will invest 7 million euros (R$36.7 million) to sign the defender. Fluminense will receive 60% of the amount they are entitled to (around R$22 million), and Criciúma, the defender’s former club, R$14.68 million for their 40%.
“It’s a feeling of duty accomplished”, says Nino about Fluminense’s title
Fluminense made an agreement to maintain 20% of the athlete’s economic rights in a future sale.
It was the UOL website that initially revealed the English club’s interest in Nino. On Friday, when commenting on the news, the defender said:
– I found out this morning. It’s not something I want to talk about at the moment because nothing other than tomorrow’s final interests me.
Nino’s contract with Fluminense ends at the end of 2024 and the tendency was not for a renewal. The player had already signaled his desire to play in Europe, but at the request of coach Fernando Diniz he decided to remain in 2023 to compete in the Libertadores. He could leave for free in July 2024.
In recent months, Fluminense even spoke to Nino to find out if he was interested in renewing his contract for a few more years. However, the athlete maintained his desire to play in Europe.
Recently, Nino received more advantageous salary offers from Almería, in Spain, and Besiktas, in Turkey, but he didn’t want to listen to them. He chose to go into English football with Nottingham Forest.
This was not the first search for Nino. In 2021, Fluminense received an offer of 6 million euros from the Arab world, but the defender refused. In 2022, Tigres sent a proposal of 5 million euros, which the athlete accepted, but Fluminense and Criciúma did not reach an agreement on the values.
