São Paulo – Publications made by Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) in a UFC fight and in the Formula 1 race in São Paulo, amid the electricity shortage crisis affecting the city, resulted in a series of criticisms from internet users on their networks social.
Heavy rain, with winds of up to 100 km/h, hit the region on Friday (3/11), killing seven people and destroying part of the power distribution network. Almost 48 hours after the storm, thousands of people are still without power at home.
Nunes spent the night from Friday to Saturday on the street, as he said, working with the crisis response teams, and was at the headquarters of Enel, an energy distributor that serves the region, on Saturday afternoon (4/11).
However, the weekend coincided with the dates of two of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, which take place in the capital with sponsorship from the City Hall: UFC São Paulo, at Ginásio do Ibirapuera, and Formula 1, at Autódromo de Interlagos.
Nunes made a series of stories on Instagram about the crisis and City Hall’s actions, especially regarding the removal of fallen trees from the streets. But he also posted images about his trip to these events on Stories and his feed.
In the comments, internet users responded with complaints about power outages and criticisms about the mayor’s failure to fully dedicate himself to helping resolve the crisis.
