Argentine fans of Boca Juniors want to reward Flamengo for 2019
Despite not having a good year in 2023, Flamengo is one of the teams that has accumulated the most titles on the continent in recent seasons. Among the achievements, one of the most memorable is the 2019 Libertadores, over River Plate (ARG). The final, in fact, was not only celebrated by red and black fans, but also by Argentines from Boca Juniors (ARG), who now want to ‘return’ the favor.
Finalist in the Libertadores this season, Boca Juniors (ARG) will face Fluminense in the decision. A great rival of Fla, the Laranjeiras team never won the competition and, if it depends on the ‘Fla-Boca union’, it will continue without the title. In Rio de Janeiro, in fact, it has become common to see Argentines united with Brazilians, from the Flamengo and Boca fans.
In a report by ESPN, the broadcaster interviewed Argentineans through the capital of Rio de Janeiro and, among the responses, several recalled Flamengo’s victory in 2019. “They say there is unity, because in 2019 Fla beat River Plate. Now we have to beat Fluminense and return a favor to them”declared one of the interviewees.
LIBERTADORES FINAL WILL BE AT MARACANÃ
The 2023 Libertadores decision brings together a heavy clash, with six titles in the competition, all of which come from Boca Juniors. Fluminense, in turn, has as its main memory the runner-up in 2008, to LDU (EQU). Coincidentally, that year, the final also took place at Maracanã, and Flu lost on penalties.
With great expectations from all of South America, the Libertadores final is scheduled for 5pm (Brasília time) this Saturday (04). It is worth noting that, until then, Flamengo will remain the current champion of the competition. After all, Rubro-Negro was the last team to lift the most coveted cup on the continent, when they beat Athletico Paranaense, on October 29, 2022.
