The CBF board decided to take criminal action against the owner of Botafogo, John Textor, for accusations of corruption against the entity after the game between Botafogo x Palmeiras. The North American executive made statements because he understood that his club was harmed by the arbitration.
At the end of the game, Botafogo owner John Textor led an impassioned interview on the side of the field. He was referring to Adryelson’s expulsion by referee Bráulio da Silva Machado. He received the red, after a VAR review, because he prevented a clear goal chance from Palmeiras when he brought down Breno Lopes.
“It’s not a red card, this changed the game. This is theft, this is corruption,” he said. And he continued: “Please, fine me, Ednaldo [Rodrigues] (CBF president), but you need to resign tomorrow morning. This is what needs to happen. This championship has become a joke, no one deserves this. Not even Palmeiras players want to win like that and we don’t want to lose like that.”
