Cesar Alvan falls to the quarterfinals in Brazil’s wrestling debut

On the first day of wrestling at the Pan American Games in Santiago-2023, Brazilian Cesar Alvan fell in the quarterfinal stage and said goodbye to the competition. Brazil returns to participate in the sport this Thursday (2), with Guilherme Barros, Thalia Oliveira and Giullia Penalber.

Competing in the under-74kg category in Luta Livre, Cesar was eliminated by Mexican Anthony Valencia. He could still enter the repechage bracket, if the opponent qualifies for the final of the competition. However, the athlete from Mexico lost to the American Tyler Daniel Berger 17-3 in the semifinal.

Cesar Alvan’s fight and more Brazilian participation

In the fight valid for the quarterfinals, Cesar Alvan faced Mexican Anthony Valencia. The Brazilian had a good start, taking a 4-0 lead after a good strike in the first few minutes. However, the opponent recovered in the fight and managed a great comeback, finishing 14-4.

Now, Brazil will have three fighters entering the scene this Thursday (2), starting at 10 am, Brasília-DF time. In the women’s category, Thalia Oliveira will compete in the up to 50 kg Luta Livre category, while Giullia Penalber, bronze medalist at the Pan de Lima-2019, will fight in the up to 57 kg category.
