100% success! On the opening day of the sprint canoeing competition at the Pan de Santiago, Brazil qualified athletes for the finals of the three events that were held this Wednesday (1). Thus, the decisions will take place next Friday (3), starting at 9:10 am, Brasília-DF time.

Ana Paula Vergutz, Heuer Rodrigues/Roberto Maehler and Valdenice Conceição were the Brazilian canoeists who advanced to the decisions of their respective races. Furthermore, Olympic champion Isaquias Queiroz will compete this Thursday (2), opening the C1 1000m men’s race.

Firstly, opening Brazilian participation on the day, Ana Paula Vergutz finished the second qualifying heat of the women’s K1 500m in fourth place, with a time of 1min59s03. Thus, she qualified for the semi-final. Afterwards, she won the new competition, beating the 2min00s00 mark, and guaranteed her place in the decision.
The same happened with Heuer Rodrigues and Roberto Maehler, who competed in the men’s K2 500m and also advanced to the semis, finishing in third place in their group with a time of 1min34s87. Soon after, third place in the heat with a time of 1min40s10 and another classification for the final.
Valdenice Conceição, bronze medalist in speed canoeing at the 2015 Toronto Pan, ended up in third place in the first heat of the C1 200m and qualified for the semi-final. In the new stage of the tournament, she was second in the race, with a time of 51s94, and secured the decision.
