Abel Ferreira vents after Palmeiras’ epic comeback, says he’s already ‘beat up a lot’ from STJD and states: ‘Only one team is capable of doing what we did here. Our’
Coach gave an interview after historic victory against Botafogo in the Brasileirão
O Palmeiras beat Botafogo 4-3 this Wednesday (1st), at Nilton Santos, for the 31st round of the Brasileirão. And, in the view of Abel Ferreiraonly your team is capable of pulling off an epic comeback after going into the locker room losing 3-0.
The Portuguese coach turned on ”sincere mode” at the press conference and was full of praise for Alviverde’s power of reaction.
”There is only one team in Brazil capable of doing what we did here, whether they like it or not, whether we win titles or not. Only one team is capable of playing these types of games, ours. And once again this team showed its mentality and strength. It was an important victory for us. The objective doesn’t change, it’s one game at a time and always playing to win”, he stated.
Abel also commented on the possible dispute he had with John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo, after the final whistle. According to Eric Faria, a TV Globo reporter, the businessman argued with the coach while still on the edge of the pitch, before going down to the dressing room.
”For me, he is one of the best presidents here in Brazil. But football has that, there are a lot of emotions when the game is hot. Sometimes I think journalists don’t understand because they’re not there, they don’t feel what we feel. You saw Botafogo’s defender kick the microphone. It’s because these are very intense moments and only those who are inside feel it. As much as the journalists or my father or mother want to feel, it’s impossible! We have to understand this emotional part. Making mistakes is not the problem. To make a mistake is not to know that we made a mistake”, said the Portuguese.
”I’ve already spoken to him, to the president of Botafogo, I honestly think he’s one of the best in Brazilian football. And Brazilian football needs more people like him. What I said in relation to everything else, I’m not going to… I have an opinion about what I said, but I know that if I say everything I think here… it’s better not to say it because it’s not my job. But in relation to what happened between the two of us, it is completely healed, resolved. He knows what I think about him. And I understand perfectly, these are very difficult times. I’ve already lost, I’ve already been left out of two Libertadores semi-finals”, he added.
Now, 3 points separate Botafogo and Palmeiras with 7 rounds remaining until the end of the championship. It is worth highlighting, however, that the Rio team still has one game less than their opponents, against Strength on the 23rd, in Castelão.
