After conceding goals in the last 20 games at the Brazilian Championship, Santos has his worst run in the history of the tournament | statistical spy

Defense is a problem in this 2023 Santos. The numbers reinforce this. Third most leaked team in the Brazilian Championship with 54 goals conceded, Peixe conceded goals in the last 20 duels in the competition. This is their worst defensive sequence in the history of the Brasileirão. In total, 46 goals were conceded during the period.

Before that, the record was 12 consecutive games with goals from opponents, in 2012. Two other significant sequences occurred in 1998 and 2004, with the black and white defense being leaked in 10 consecutive duels in both cases. Check out more below:

The average of the current sequence is also higher than the other editions listed above: there were 2.3 goals per game. During this period, Peixe equaled its worst defeat in the history of the Brazilian Championship by suffering a 7-1 defeat to Internacional, in the 28th round. The score of 7-1 in Beira-Rio was the same as the 2005 embarrassment in the defeat suffered against rival Corinthians.

In this duel in Beira-Rio, individual failures accentuated the breakdown of Santos’ defensive system in the Brazilian Championship. There were at least two decisive errors for Colorado’s goals: Dodô’s wrong pass for Alan Patrick’s goal through coverage and the shared error of Luiz Adriano’s goal, in which João Basso loses the ball in midfield and Vladimir accepts the shot in the middle of your goal.

Despite this, decisive individual errors represent only 5% of the goals conceded by Santos in the Brasileirão, according to an assessment by the Espião Estatístico team.
