Closing the first block of the JEBs (Brazilian School Games) competitions held in Brasília (DF), the men’s basketball team from Escola Estadual Penha Brasil won the final game against the team from Goiás in the Copper Series and won the gold medal for Roraima .
The match was held on the night of this Tuesday, 31st, at Clube Vizinhança Asa Sul. The Roraimenses started by losing the first quarter of the first half by 14 x 5. At that moment the game was stopped because the Goiás coach received two warnings and needed be removed from the bank. After waiting for the coach to be replaced, the game was resumed.
When the match resumed, another team from Roraima entered the court. More agile, dynamic and with a more concentrated defense, the Escola Penha Brasil team set the pace of the game, chased the loss, turned the score around and remained ahead throughout the match, leading the team to victory with the final score 47 x 41.
“I had a good talk with them, because they started the match very nervous. Thank God then they managed to take control of the game, they remained firm in defense and with that came the result. Last year we hit the post and this year it worked”, said the team’s coach, Bento Salim Hage Bríglia, professor Bentinho.
For the team’s point guard and captain, Sebastian Alejandro Mercado Jahn, nervousness really took over the team, but they concentrated and later managed to balance the score.
“The part I was most nervous about was when they were winning the game. I was very scared. But then we managed to equalize and turn it around. It was exciting, we played against very good opponents. I’m happy with the medal,” she said.
The federal deputy for Roraima, Stélio Dener, and the president of Federr (School Sports Federation of Roraima), Gean Menezes, attended the basketball game and, at the end, also participated in the awards ceremony.
