Paris, France) – One of the strong contenders for the title at Roland Garros, after defeating Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Rome last week, the Dane Holger Rune reiterated his big goal for 2023: he wants to win a Grand Slam title even this season.

“I want to win a Grand Slam this year. That’s what I’ve said in the past and I stand by it. Obviously, I hope I can catch up here. If not, I hope to get it at the other two Slams. Let’s think about one tournament at a time”, said the 20-year-old Dane and current 6th in the world for the Roland Garros website.

“As many of you already know me, I am a very eager person to win titles. Paris is the main objective of the clay season. I think I played good games and arrived as well prepared as possible. Now these are the last small adjustments I have to make”, said the quadrifinalist last year.

In addition to the runner-up in Rome, Rune was also a finalist in Monte Carlo and champion at the ATP 250 in Munich, arriving on a high for the dispute in Paris. “It’s been a good clay season so far for me. I’ve had three finals in four tournaments, so I have nothing to complain about,” said the Dane.

Rune is one of only three active players, alongside Nick Kyrgios (2-1) and Jiri Vesely (2-0), who have beaten Djokovic more than once and boast a positive record against the Serbian. “He kind of reminds me a little bit (of me), the way he plays,” said Djokovic.
