João Lago, from Paraná, tries to win his second consecutive title in Bolivia

Cochabamba (Bolivia) – João Lago from Paraná and Sofia Perovani from São Paulo will be the Brazilian representatives in the semifinals of the ITF J100 in Cochabamba, on clay courts in Bolivia. The tournament gives 100 points in the youth ranking to the champions, 60 to the runners-up and 36 to the other semifinalists.
Champion in La Paz last week, João Lago beat the Colombian Juan Arias by 6/2 and 6/3. Lago, 16 years old and currently 370th in the youth world ranking, already has two titles and a runner-up in the season, always playing in Bolivia.
Lago’s next opponent will be Argentine Lucca Guercio, the tournament’s top seed and 190th in the ranking, who avoided a Brazilian semifinal by beating Victor Pagotto by 6/2 and 6/4. Still this Thursday, Filipe Costa fell in the quarterfinals, surpassed by the Argentine Romeo Arcuschin by double 6/2.
In the women’s bracket, Sofia Perovani is still looking for her second ITF title in her career and her first this season. The 16-year-old from São Paulo and 563rd in the ranking had won the opening set against Colombian Maria Vargas Triana, seed 2 in the tournament, by 6/2 when her rival withdrew. She now faces Peruvian Francesca Bunikowska in the semifinals.
Brazilians fall in the quarterfinals in Santa Tecla
For the ITF J60 in Santa Tecla, on hard courts in El Salvador, two Brazilians were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Rafael Ferreira was beaten by the Briton Maxwell Castle by 0/6, 6/2 and 6/2, while Natan Albertini lost to the Guatemalan Marcos Castellanos by 6/1 and 6/3.
