Discredited in the UFC? Dana comments on the future of Charles do Bronx and says: ‘There is no way to plan’

-

Back in the octagon on the next 10th, when he will face Beneil Dariush in the co-main event of UFC 289, Charles of the Bronx wants to recover the path of victories and have the opportunity to fight for the lightweight belt again. But, if the Brazilian wins his appointment, will he have the chance of a title shot against champion Islam Makhachev?

Dana White, president of the UFC, avoided projecting the future of Do Bronx during an interview with Ag. Fight. The agent said that, even with the former champion’s triumph, “other aspects” are taken into consideration when defining a title challenger and left the black belt’s future open.

“I have no idea (if Charles fights for the belt if he wins). We have to see how the fight unfolds, how he will perform. But yeah, he’s up there (in contention for the title shot). Most likely yes, if he wins, he would have (title shot). But who knows? Let’s see how things unfold. There are injuries, personal issues and other things. There are a lot of things that go into (the decision) of whether a guy gets a title shot,” he said.

At the age of 33, Charles from the Bronx lost his lightweight belt before his fight against Justin Gaethje after a problem with the scales. With the belt vacant, the Brazilian faced Islam Makhachev for possession of the UFC under-70 kg title, but ended up submitting at the end of 2022 – which interrupted a series of 11 straight victories. Dariush, aged 34, arrives packed for this clash with eight consecutive victories.
