The improvement in the training structure of the Botafogo follow on the radar of John Textor. In LIVE on the FOGÃONET channel on YouTube, the American businessman praised the renovation of the fields of Espaço Lonier and stated that he intends to accelerate improvements by installing container structures.
– I was very positively surprised to see how happy Luís Castro was to see the best we did at Lonier, especially on the pitch. I went into his office, the air conditioning was very noisy, maybe it was the worst air conditioning I’ve ever seen. The pitches are very good, but the structure itself needs to be completely renovated. They did a good job to make the Lonier functional, but we need a deep restructuring – Textor admitted.
– The best we can do now is to leave Lonier in the best possible shape for the players. We will continue to invest in demolishing some structures that are not being used and replacing them with container structures. Structure today is no longer a problem – he added.
Textor emphasized that the fact that Espaço Lonier and the Nilton Santos Stadium not being owned by SAF do Botafogo ends up hindering the process and stated that he remains also focused on the terrain offered by City hall do Rio for the construction of the new Glorioso Training Center.
– We have two big problems, we can’t invest in something you don’t own. We have to put a lot of money in a place that is not ours, both in Lonier and Nilton Santos. Lonier is a club property, which is pledged to other creditors, including the brothers Moreira Salles. The brothers are incredible supporters of the club, they have offered to make big investments in Lonier, but their vision is to build a school and structure for the youth divisions. I agree with them, it is a peaceful, beautiful, safe place, and their project makes perfect sense. The problem is that Luís Castro finds the perfect place for the professional, under-23 and under-20. We need to reach an agreement with Moreira Salles, who have been very generous, the club owes them a huge debt. Is the Lonier big enough to have the base and pro? I don’t think so – Textor said, adding:
– We are looking at a large piece of land offered by the City Hall near Lonier and we are working together to make it viable. We can have the complete structure on this ground, a partnership with Lyon, etc., and it’s not a decision we need to make now. If we start destroying the Lonier structures now, we can replace them in a short time with container structures, as well as making other fields, giving a first-class structure. The fans demand speed, I met with the mayor, we shook hands, but I never saw a signed paper, because these things take time.
