Corinthians group in Copinha investigated for match fixing

Already in the final stretch of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, the Civil Police of São Paulo, together with the São Paulo Football Federation, investigate a gang accused of manipulating the results of this edition of the main tournament in Brazil. One of them was with a player from Zumbi-AL, a team that participated in the Corinthians Group in the Copinha. The information was initially conveyed by the ge.globe.

The case itself was not in the game against Timãozinho, which ended in a 4-0 alvinegra victory. In the second round of the group stage, a gambler enticed an athlete from Zumbi, offering BRL 3,000 for him to concede corners to the opposing team. The athlete denied the proposal and won against Ferroviária, the opponent in question.

According to the police, the person responsible for the enticement was Diego Rodrigues, a resident of the interior of São Paulo.

Currently, the FPF has a company specialized in analyzing games to see if there is any possibility of manipulation of results. However, according to Paulo Schmitt, president of the Integrity Committee of the São Paulo Football Federation, the Copinha brings greater difficulty as teams from all over Brazil come to compete in the competition.

“Copinha itself, which did not arouse so much interest in the past, due to the low wages, age group and risk factors that are present in various types of events and competitions, and characteristics of athletes who compete in these events, it has even become a target in a certain way priority. it is a national event. So, as much as you do control, inspection, education within São Paulo football, when you have a national event, with athletes from all over Brazil, that makes the Copinha a point of differentiated risk for us“, said the top hat to the ge.globe.

In São Paulo, the average number of manipulated games in recent years was between seven and ten cases, but in Brazil there were approximately 130 situations.

This happens with relative frequency, today we have an average of seven to ten confirmed cases of match manipulation per year in the state of São Paulo and in São Paulo football.. It is an amount, let’s say, controlled, a value even controlled close to the whole of Brazil, which in 2022 alone already has approximately 130 confirmed cases“, explains Paulo Schmitt.

In recent years, bookmakers have invested heavily in world football and Brazil is part of this. In 2022, for example, all 20 clubs in Série A of the Brazilian Championship were sponsored by a bookmaker.

In the case of Corinthians, the club recently rescinded the Galera.Bet and hit with pixbet as a team sponsor. This new sponsor even partnered with Timãozinho in this edition of the São Paulo Cup.

It is not yet known if any Corinthians Under-20 games have suffered result manipulation by a recruiter, but new cases may be discovered.
